Description

"The Tale of Genji" was written by Murasaki Shikibu approximately 1,000 years ago (the middle of the Heian period, roughly from the year 973 to 1014). The tale is set among the aristocracy during the Heian period, and throughout its 54 chapters, it tells the story of how the lead character Hikaru Genji and those around him love, hate, and suffer.
This is one chapter of the tale, and the tale has also influenced the areas of painting and craftsmanship.
