The 56th Wakkai Minato Nankyoku Festival in Hokkaido

Wakkanai is closely related to Antarctica (Nankyoku) – Taro and Jiro, the famous two sled dogs that survived on the continent, were from Wakkanai; the first Japanese icebreaker was named Soya, a point situated in Wakkanai. The two-day festival is an event that reminds us of such a close relationship between Wakkanai and the continent. There will be a variety of events such as folk dances and a show of 2,500 fireworks.
