The Hokkaido Marathon is the only full marathon that takes place in the summer in Japan. The event started with only 439 participants, but has increasingly attracted more runners. Now, more than 20,000 runners participate in this race. Also, as about 40% of Japanese top runners participate in this full marathon, it is a valuable opportunity to run with them in the same race. The event also offers a shorter race, the 11.5km fun run, for more beginning and intermediate runners.
