The Sapporo Snow Festival is one of the largest annual snow festivals in Japan. Since its inception with six snow statues made by local junior and senior high school students in 1950, the festival has continually and increasingly attracts visitors from all over Japan as well as from abroad. Its massive snow sculptures are carefully created through steps from the base preparation to the final touches, and now entertain more than two million visitors.
